I went to NYC for a week!

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to be back. I’ve missed writing: I’m ready to get back into the swing of things. Over the summer, I went north for the first time in over ten years! I had an incredible time visiting New York City for the first time ever.

The first day was incredible. I was in such awe and the feeling lasted the entire trip. Day one, I woke up at 3:00 a.m., after only sleeping for 2 hours in ATL, and caught an Uber with my mom and sisters to the airport. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 7:15 that morning and it did! This was my first trip on an air plane in ten years. You could say I was nervous. 😅

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

The flight was really short! I don’t even think it was the full two hours.

My first time in Queens, NY

I was in such awe when I arrived. We landed at JKF airport and our hotel shuttle took us from Queens to Manhattan.

One of my favorite shows in my early twenties was “King of Queens.” Next time I return, I want to explore the city.

Heading to Manhattan
Hell’s Kitchen

We went to a restaurant as soon as we touched down in Manhattan.

Restaurant: Mom’s Kitchen and Bar

One of my sister’s meals. The sauce was fantastic! I need the secret recipe.
My meal! I loved the fries and sauce. I wasn’t really a fan of the chicken wings, but the service and atmosphere were top notch! I will definitely be returning.

After we left the restaurant, it was time to explore the city!

Sisters! I’m the oldest. I get asked all the time if I’m the youngest 😂
My youngest sister and I.
We stayed at the Belvedere. The convenience to everything from Central Park, delis, Broadway, museums, and others delights are a 10/10. I would definitely recommend!

We had a little bit of a scare the first day. While we were heading to walk around the city, my mom fell in the middle of a busy crosswalk. It was very scary and we were all concerned that she would need hospital care. Luckily, my middle sister is a CNA, and told us what to do to help her. She has a lot of experience taking care of people. One day, she will be a nurse! Strangers from a neat restaurant helped us assist my mom, and she took it easy for the rest of the trip! After my mom was taken care of, my youngest sister and I took off to Central Park.

I’ve always wanted to visit Central Park. It’s the focal point of some of my favorite movies and tv shows, such as Law and Order: SVU, Sex and the City, Home Alone 2, Enchanted (the sequel is coming out soon), The Devil Wears Prada, Spider-Man 3, and so much more! Needless to say, I visited this park everyday I spent in New York.

Beyond beautiful! ☀️

The first time I visited Central Park, I took a trolley tour. It actually started to rain, but our driver had us covered!

If you look closely at the top, you can see a clear wrap rolled up to protect customers from rainy weather.

Regardless of the rain, I enjoyed myself. We even stopped by to the famous fountain where the Friends introduction was recorded.

Does this look familiar?
Look at the person behind us staring at us taking pictures in the rain. Wow! I can only imagine what they were thinking.
I had the time of my life.

Right in front on me is a tunnel, and there were people playing instruments to a mini concert. I have a video and hopefully I can insert the clip in this blog.

Catching the sounds of the rain by this beautiful fountain.

Dinner the first night! Tacos from a corner deli.
Visited Whole Foods at a mall

That pretty much sums up my first day in New York City.

The second day, we visited the American Museum of Natural History.

I had a blast here. I absolutely would return the next time I visit NYC.
Fun fact, I love dinosaurs! I bought a dinosaur necklace that looked like this beastly guy from the gift shop. Actually, I purchased two dino necklaces!
I learned quite a bit about the planets. Science is one of the subjects I teach.
I’m intrigued by all of the history and culture of the museum.
Sea turtles mates!
Talented people created/built this natural scene and several others like it.

I’ve never seen anything like this museum before. The three hours we spent there were not long enough! I can’t wait to go back.

Getting a photo for the blog! 🙃😉
This is a really cool burial!

After leaving the museum, my sisters and I headed to the Central Park Zoo, which was located right across the street from the museum.

They are so cute 🥰
Ready for my Law and Order SVU close up

We finished off the day by going to a local Starbucks and walking around the mall.

On the third day, and arguably my most favorite day, my family and I went to go see a Broadway play! Of course, you guessed it! We saw Wicked! I had never been to a broadway show, but I’ve always wanted to, since I was in middle school. Fun fact: I used to be in drama club and I was in a play my senior year of high school (don’t get too excited, I only had two lines, which I wrote on my arm).

The year before going to see the play, I read an article about a new lead playing Glinda the Good Witch: a black actress named Brittney Johnson took over the role and I really wanted to see her in action! The fact that I was able to made me feel even more special watching the show. I couldn’t get a lot of footage because we were not allowed to film during the show. But I snapped what I could.

On the way to Broadway! 🎭
We arrived just in time and minutes later, it was a full house!
Best day ever!
The stage was incredible.
We’re staring at the beautiful Phylicia Rashad

After the show was over, we walked the streets of NY, and found a great Mexican restaurant to eat at. We are outdoors on the sidewalk. It was so beautiful. The people around us were having a wonderful time. I wish we had places like that where I live.

NYC streets are SO full of life.

Day four, we went to the Central Zoo Park! I had a blast this day as well!

Simón Bolívar monument.
Red Panda
Turtles
We visited the “tropical rainforest” it was so humid and hot!
Iguana
Tortoise
Baby Flamingos
Fruit Bat
Green Python
Lémur from Madagascar

I have videos of these beautiful snow leopards, turtles, sea lions and more that I haven’t included because this blog is already long enough! But I may make a YouTube video with all of my footage I captured.

The last day was the day we flew home. We had an early morning flight! I was so sad to touch back down. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for being patient with me! I hope you enjoyed this blog. More blogs coming soon!

Welcome! My name is Jasmen Victoria. I was born in the spring, down south, in the early nineties. My favorite color is pink. I prefer my solitude to being in the company of others; but, if you invite me out to eat or for walk in the park, I will be highly tempted to abandon my hermitage. Thank you for stepping inside the world of Jasmen for a moment. Enjoy your stay. <3
